Lantana’s solid waste and recycling collection fees are going up — but they’ll still be a good deal compared with some of the town’s previous charges for the services.
The Town Council unanimously approved the new rates at its meeting on Aug. 10. Rates for a single-family home, mobile home, and small multifamily buildings will be $361.44 per year per unit, an increase of $14.16 annually from the current rate. Larger multifamily buildings will see their rates rise $5.88 per year per unit, to $191.76. This solid waste assessment is in addition to the county’s assessment for landfill and transfer station use.
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, the town switched haulers to use Coastal Waste and Recycling of Florida, which at the time gave residents about $75 off their tax bill.
“I’ve been living here all my life, even when Lantana collected trash — Coastal is by far the best,” Mayor Karen Lythgoe said.
Town documents show the proposed rates are still lower than what they were before Coastal was hired. In the 2021-22 fiscal year, the assessment for single-family homes, mobile homes, and small multifamily buildings was $11.76 more than the newly approved rate and $44.40 higher for larger multifamily buildings.
In total, Lantana expects to receive about $1.69 million in revenue from the new rates, covering 6,005 residential units.
