Dog owners and their pets going to Lantana’s Maddock Park should prepare to be inconvenienced as the town expects to move forward with constructing accessibility improvements there later this year.
The Town Council on Aug. 10 unanimously approved entering into a grant agreement for the project, which will include a new ADA-compliant concrete walkway to replace the existing mulch trail in the dog recreation area.
Palm Beach County is providing the town with a $379,210 Community Development Block Grant for the project at the park, 1200 W. Drew St.
The design for the project is nearly complete. The agreement needs to be finalized, and the council must still approve a construction contract for the work to begin.
During construction, parts of the park will be closed.
“I’ve discussed with the town manager some alternate closure techniques … but we have options on what we can do,” said Vanessa Holloway, Lantana’s contract and grants administrator.
Staff suggested completing the project in parts, so only a portion of the park will be closed at any given time.
The agreement will take effect on Oct. 1, and the project will need to be completed by Dec. 31, 2027. Town officials will send out notifications for when closures will begin once construction starts.
