John Perruccio reports the great success of last weekend's Lion Fish hunt:
Total number of fish - 756
Number of boats participating - 7
Total number of divers participating - 75
Largest fish - 15.5 inches
Smallest fish - 2.25 inches
There were mostly local divers participating but we did have guests that flew in from Texas and Ohio to participate. In addition, our guest celebrity chef, Tenney Flynn of GW Fins in New Orleans, prepared over 200 of the fish for the party that followed at Boston's on the Beach. The chef shared home focused preparation of the fish to show divers the easy preparation and mild flavor this fish has. Being there are no predators for this fish other than divers, our goal was to educate and create a demand for the fish.
Through Chef Flynn's contact, a local fish supplier attended the after party to check on the sizing and viability of supplying the fish as a commercial option. Ironically, an hour before Chef Flynn contacted the supplier to join us, the supplier was contacted by a client in South Carolina asking if he could procure Lionfish for him.
