Commissioner Holds Meeting on Oil Spill with
Local District 4 City Officials
Commissioner Steven Abrams met with District 4 Mayors and City Managers at his south county office in Delray Beach this morning to discuss the BP oil spill. Assistant County Administrator Vince Bonvento, who oversees the county’s Emergency Management Division, was also in attendance.
“I was pleased to provide an opportunity for these municipal leaders to address their concerns and share information in preparation for any potential impact of the spill on our coastline,” said Abrams.
Vince Bonvento provided the group of city officials with details concerning the county’s contingency plans to address mitigation, response and recovery operations.
County emergency officials are in regular contact with the U.S. Coast Guard, one of the major agencies that are on the county's Deepwater Horizon Spill Task Force. Additionally, local emergency managers are participating in daily conference calls with all Florida counties.
The Task Force’s first meeting is scheduled for May 17th at 9:00 a.m. at the Emergency Operations Center. The Commissioner will be in attendance and all coastal community leaders and emergency officials have also been invited to attend.
