Taxes up; no change in rate — The Ocean Ridge Town Commission voted to hold the town’s tax rate at $5.40 for every $1,000 of taxable value, which is expected to produce an extra $1 million in tax revenue this year because of rising property values.
The approved rate results in a 6.13% tax increase over the no-new-taxes rollback rate. This is the fourth year in a row the commission has kept the rate at $5.40 per $1,000.
The commission at its Sept. 21 meeting also approved an $11.395 million general fund budget and $6.5 million in unassigned reserves for emergency situations. Those reserves, which equate to 60.5% of the general fund budget that is used to pay for day-to-day town operations, would be able to cover about seven months of regular town expenses if needed.
The town’s overall $20.7 million budget also includes $4.035 million for capital projects, including water main modernization, storm water improvements and sea wall protection.
The owner of home with a $1 million taxable value will pay $5,400 in town taxes.
Bringing books to town — The Palm Beach County Library Bookmobile is coming to Town Hall this fall, every other Monday, 2:45-3:30 p.m. The dates are Oct. 5 and 19; Nov. 2, 16 and 30; and Dec. 14.
