These volunteers are responsible for saving many sea turtles whose nests would have otherwise been destroyed by beach cleaners or curious but careless beach goers. Their record keeping gives us a statistical view of fluctuations in the population of this important species. This work is absolutely essential and they are to be commended. As a former turtle monitor, I appreciate their early morning patrols - no matter how bad the weather. As a concerned environmentalist, I applaud their generous efforts to help these wonderful creatures.
