  • I've since read an interesting letter in the June 2014 Coastal Star, by Captain Steve Dougherty, about catch-and-release sport fishing and the post-release mortality rates of some sharks, particularly hammerheads. Although this shark wasn't a hammerhead, it made me wonder whether it survived once it was released. It was caught so quickly, with no long fight to reel it in, and the young fishermen worked rapidly to release it back into the ocean as soon as possible. I hope it made it.
