Mighty Oakes ornament
Where: Bliss Designs, 111 E. Boca Raton Road,
Boca Raton, 395-7048.
The gift: Diane Bliss could give Santa’s elves a run for their money. Stuffed like a Christmas stocking, her tiny shop showcases gifts and décor items, from monogrammed beach towels and totes to door signs to baby clothes. She is known for her hand-painted, wooden Christmas ornaments.
So when friends lost a child with a congenital heart defect and started a foundation to help other parents cope with similar tragedies, Bliss created an ornament in the baby’s honor. Oakes Lee Ortyl lived only 15 months. He got the nickname “Mighty” early in life after miraculous recoveries from conditions he wasn’t expected to survive.
Had he lived, Bliss said, Oakes would have been the same age as her granddaughter.
How much: $20.
Benefits: The Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation, which helps families cope with the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects.
