East of Veterans Park in Delray Beach

Water still lingers about 3 p.m. Friday afternoon on the Intracoastal walkway.

John Morgan, the environmental services director for Delray Beach, said the city fared well with Hurricane Matthew's brush up the east coast of Florida.

Water topped the city's sea walls during high tides on Thursday, and low-lying streets including Marine Way and Palm Trail were flooded. He did not know whether water got into the homes on those streets.

The city sent out its damage assessment team to determine whether there was more damage to its sea walls. Morgan said he didn't think there was. (Photo by Jane Smith)
