  • NOTE: I asked turtle monitor Joan Lorne to explain what happens when a dead sea turtle is found. This is her response:

Mary Kate -  I called FWC and reported the dead loggerhead sea turtle, as are our instructions when we come across dead or injured sea turtles.

So we give them the location, and they take it from there.  We leave a stake next to the sea turtle to tell passersby that the FWC has been notified.

So, we were not required to stay with the sea turtle.  Someone eventually came out, I'm not sure what they did as I was not there.  They did spray the sea turtle orange to indicate that they had checked out the loggerhead and that it could be buried.
