At SAFE’s urging, the Atlantic Plaza redeveloper agreed to the following:
1. Minimize traffic on Atlantic Avenue, particularly at the Atlantic Avenue Bridge, and north of Northeast First Street on Seventh Avenue;
2. Encourage the city to use its $150,000 shuttle funding to improve service, reduce wait time and expand service;
3. Enact programs for mitigating traffic;
4. Implement an incentive program for employees to use alternative means of transportation;
5. Support and pay for necessary traffic improvements at Northeast First Street/Sixth Avenue and Northeast First Street/Seventh Avenue, including a new traffic signal and right-turn-on-red lane onto North Federal; and up to $20,000 for a street closure at Seventh Avenue north of First Street;
6. The applicant will work with SAFE, Delray Beach and FDOT to improve pedestrians’ safe crossing of Atlantic Avenue between Sixth Avenue and Veteran’s Park, and,
7. The applicant will provide public bike racks, tenant and employee inside bicycle storage, and employee lockers and showers.
The quality of life we all enjoy will not be diminished by Atlantic Plaza if, and only if, the necessary steps to mitigate traffic to an acceptable level are taken.
