“Boca Raton Army Air Field and the BRAAF Fire Department” Speaker: Thomas R. Wood

Thomas R. Wood, CFO, FIFireE, and retired Chief of the Boca Raton Fire Department, has spent years researching the Boca Raton Army Air Field and its Fire Department. Wood will share information about the many incidents the BRAAF Fire Department handled including the crash of a B34 Lexington bomber on May 12, 1944—eighty years ago. Nine soldiers lost their lives in the crash. Through Wood’s efforts, a state historical marker commemorating the tragedy was unveiled on FAU’s campus in 2021.  6p Refreshments.  6:30 Speaker starts.  Fee: $10, free for Boca Raton’s Historical Society (BRHS) members.
