The Raging Arts (or) What Are We Doing To This Planet? Opening Friday October 1, 6 PM to 9 PM On Friday evening, October 1 from 6-10 P.M. Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery will stage a rage about the human condition and the planet upon which we all hope to survive. Joining the artists in their rage will be The Raging Grannies. Outside the gallery will be an installation depicting the ravages of oil spills in our oceans and on our coasts. The event will take place on Friday, October 1 from 6-9 PM. The exhibition continues through October 13th. The artists of the Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery join hands with local artists and artists around the world in expressing their aspirations for a world free of war, hatred and destruction of the planet. They do so through their art and through collaborations with other artists. The arts require the rights of total freedom of expression. The Siren (Mermaid-Norman Gitzen’s creation) will resurface at the gallery, blindfolded and shackled. She had been swimming around the gulf when the oil spilled occurred and her Siren’s song of alarm was silenced by the deafening denials of the destruction wreaked upon her sister creatures of the deep. An installation of sand, turtle eggs, wild creatures and hands pushing through the sand will lie beneath an oil derrick obliterating them by the spilling of its contents. Both plants and animals will be tainted. Flanking the other side of the installation will be a 10 foot long dinosaur (the work of Yure De Alencar) which will represent the fossils from which we derive the oil creating the menace. The Raging Grannies create parodies of songs that speak to Peace and an end to war. They are part of a national movement of grandmothers who organize and attend rallies, raising their voices in protest and the hope for a better world. A wine and cheese tasting takes place at every opening. Clay•Glass•Metal•Stone Cooperative Gallery is sponsored by the Flamingo Clay Studio, a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to provide affordable studio and gallery space for three-dimensional artists. The gallery is located at 605 Lake Avenue in downtown Lake Worth. Gallery openings are the first and third Friday of each month from 6-9PM. For information call 215-205-9441.
