The Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization, a non-profit group that  provides education, support and advocacy for children and adults with Down Syndrome, will offer The Learning Program beginning this fall.  The Learning Program consists of nine morning sessions beginning September 10, 2011 and ending in May 2012 at Lake Worth High, 1701 Lake Worth Road. Cost is $25.00 to register and $25.00 per session.   The Learning Program is both for parents and children.  Parents attend workshops, which teach them first to prepare children for school and later to help support their children’s classroom learning.  Parents learn how to teach reading, math and independent life skills.  At the same time, the children participate in groups where they improve their social, math and reading skills and fine motor coordination.  The Learning Program is staffed by a teacher, developmental specialist, occupational therapist and a speech and language pathologist.   Workshops are available for parents and children with Down syndrome from ages 2 through 14.  To find out specific times, more information or to register, please contact Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization at 561.912..1231 or gcdso@bellsouth.net.
