The two brothers of President John F. Kennedy made major contributions to American politics and history. In this lecture, the life and significance of Ted Kennedy will be analyzed in detail. Edward (Ted) Kennedy would serve in the US Senate for nearly half a century, having the fifth longest-serving tenure in American history. He would be regarded as "The Lion of the Senate," who promoted more legislation and suggested more laws than any Senator in American history. He would be able to work "across the aisle" with opposition party members, who greatly respected his commitment to public service. He would also attempt a campaign for President in 1980, which floundered, but his commitment to the institution of the Senate was profound.
