Holocaust Learning Experience Showcase Series presented by MorseLife NEXT GENERATIONS presents a free, virtual presentation of Visages of Memory, a moving photo essay of Holocaust Survivors accompanied by excerpts of Survivor stories, on Wednesday, January 25 at 7 p.m.

Originally produced and exhibited at Miami-Dade College, the showcase will be led by its creators, photographer Laszlo Selly and author Bobbi Kaufman, and conclude with an interactive question and answer period.

“As we lead up to International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, this showcase on January 25 gives us the opportunity to put a face on the Survivors and their experiences,” said Leigh Routman, Executive Director of the Holocaust Learning Experience. “While misinformation regarding the Holocaust continues to be disseminated, we are thrilled to be able to bring this exhibit to anyone with an internet connection free of charge.”

Selly and his twin brother were born into a middle-class, secular Jewish family in Budapest, Hungary in 1937. After liberation by the Soviets, the family began rebuilding their life in Budapest, where the twins underwent ten years of intense communist indoctrination. During the Hungarian Revolution, the two escaped and made their way to the U.S. where Laslo became a successful food photographer. He speaks nationally about his experiences during the Holocaust.

Kaufman began writing for Holocaust Survivors in the 1990s and also interviewed survivors for Steven Spielberg’s Shoah Foundation. Meeting with Survivors, she recorded numerous conversations and wrote their stories in their own words which she then printed as books and presented as gifts to Survivors. Never originally intended for publication, they are now being published by the Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies at the University of Miami.

Reservations for the free showcase are required and may be made at holocaustlearningexperience.org/Programs.
