The SYMPHONIA (thesymphonia.org), South Florida’s world-class chamber orchestra, has just announced it will have a more relaxed, 90 minute concert, with no intermission. Guests can bring their cocktails into the concert, which will be Delray on April 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Crest Theatre, Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach. The theme will be Danzon Symphonia!

The concert will feature Alastair Willis as conductor and Lidia Kaminska as Bandoneon soloist. Pieces include Shostakovich, Glijov, Piazzolla and Weill.

Lidia Kaminska… “transforms the accordion into a massive force -- and burns through [classical repertoire] with virtuosic speed and technique."- Philadelphia Magazine

The evening will feature a unique program of dance music introduced with visuals and commentary by Maestro Alastair Willis who will take the audience on a dramatic journey through Russian jazz, Argentine tango, and 1920s German musical theater and a stunning performance by Bandoneon soloist Lidia Kaminska.

Grammy-nominated conductor Alastair Willis is music director of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and has guest conducted major orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra and China National Orchestra.

Accordionist Lidia Kaminska, who plays the Bandoneon in this concert, has performed extensively in both the U.S. and Europe. Her repertoire includes a broad range of classical, contemporary, and avant-garde music, and she is changing the perception of the accordion from parlor entertainment to a serious classical instrument.

VIP Tickets are $69 for preferred seating and a post-concert reception. Regular Tickets are $59.

Tickets are available at oldschoolsquare.org or by calling 561-243-7922 or by visiting the Crest Theater Box Office at Old School Square.
