Sustainability in Florida means leaving future generations a beautiful state with rich natural resources, healthy ecosystems, vibrant communities, opportunities for personal growth and public involvement, and a diverse, productive, and growing economy. Looking at what is happening with waste materials is one way to gauge how sustainable we are. Two lecturers will share their insight into sustainability, waste disposal, recycling, and renewable energy in Florida and locally. Dawn McCormick, Director of Communications and Community Relations for Waste Management Inc. of Florida, is a board member of Sustainable Florida and Keep Florida Beautiful and an officer of the Florida Recycling Partnership. Waste Management Inc. is the leading provider of comprehensive waste management and environmental services in North America and managed 15 million tons of recyclables in 2013. Joining Dawn is Becky Haltermon, an Education Specialist with the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) of Palm Beach County. SWA is the governmental agency responsible for providing an economical and environmentally conscious Integrated Solid Waste Management System for the 1.4 million residents of Palm Beach County. Becky has 10 years of experience with environmental education and outreach. Come hear these lecturers talk trash and what it means for sustainable living.
