The City of West Palm Beach is scoring a touchdown with its Official Palm Beach County Miami Super Bowl Host Committee Celebration event, Super Clematis by Night. The official pre-game to the big game will take place on Thursday, January 30 on the Great Lawn downtown and include a variety of free entertainment and activities for people of all ages. To make the super evening extra special, City officials huddled together and decided to bring in popular national act Smash Mouth to headline the show. The event takes place from 6 – 9 p.m.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Super Bowl Committee to host the Official Palm Beach County Miami Super Bowl Host Committee Celebration,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. “This is the fourth time since the 1990s that the City of West Palm Beach’s iconic Clematis by Night event has served as the location for the official Palm Beach County pre-game to the big game. With hits like ‘All Star,’ ‘I’m a Believer’ and ‘Walkin’ on the Sun,’ we are confident the entire crowd will be head bobbing to the familiar beats of Smash Mouth. We hope everyone will plan join us.”

Smash Mouth is a multi-platinum American rock band hailing from California. The band was formed in the early 90s and has churned out hit after hit for decades. Ironically, the band’s name is a football term, meaning hard-hitting play. Big Sky, an historically popular Clematis by Night band originally from Gainesville, will open for the national act at 6 p.m. Smash Mouth will headline at 7:45 p.m.

In addition to the free concert, Super Clematis by Night will feature the Palm Beach Lakes High School Marching Band, cheerleaders, a live-art, chalk painting by local artists, the Chalk Guys, courtesy of the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, and several sports stations for children to experience a variety of sports, courtesy of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. The clinicals include hockey by the Florida Panthers, skating by Palm Beach Skate Zone, soccer by N Zone Sports, gymnastics by Gymnastics Revolution, golf by Inner City Youth Golf and martial arts by Cardon’s Academy. The interactive experiences will be programmed all along Clematis Street, as the 100, 200 and 300 blocks will be closed to vehicle traffic for the festive celebration.

“For nearly 25 years Clematis by Night has served as the place where we come together as a community to celebrate,” said Mary Pinak, Community Events Manager for the City of West Palm Beach. “The weekly event is known as ‘where the party begins,’ and as such, we are excited to once again celebrate the return of the Super Bowl to Miami.”

The City of West Palm Beach will also host a ribbon cutting ceremony to formally recognize the completion of the Clematis Streetscape project on the 100 block. The ribbon cutting will take place at 5:30 p.m. on South Clematis Street. The ceremonial snip will recognize the completion of improvements, which include wider sidewalks and narrowed traffic lanes. Phase II of the Clematis Streetscape project included improvements to the 100 and 200 blocks of the popular downtown corridor. Improvements to the 200 block were wrapped up and celebrated last November. The design puts people first to create a more inviting downtown.
