What? Second Annual 5K & Fun Run to fight childhood obesity and promote health and wellness. Who? Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA and Coach Roudy Fights Childhood Obesity. When? Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. Where? Florida Atlantic University 777 Glades Road Boca Raton, FL 3343. There will be nutritionists and other health experts ready to provide advice and other suggestions to promote a healthy life style. Childhood Obesity Epidemic According to the Department of Health and Human Services, 12.5 million children are obese today – that is more than 17%. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that the prevalence of obesity among children age 6 to 11 has doubled in the past 20 years. Children who are obese are at risk for heart disease, bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, as well as social and psychological problems.
