“Six Degrees of Separation” is a play inspired by a real-life con artist (Paul) who shows up on the doorstep of a wealthy socialite couple in New York City after he has been the victim of an attack on the streets of the city. Paul claims to be Sidney Poitier’s son and says he is a friend to the New York couple’s son. Captivated by Paul's intelligence and his fascinating conversation, the couple invites him to stay overnight. As the play progresses, Paul's cons unexpectedly lead him into darker territory, and his lies begin to catch up with him. His presence in the household of this socialite couple, however, causes them to look more closely at their lives and connections they always thought were important. The play was the winner of the 1993 Olivier Award for Best Play and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. The New York Times reported that Guare “transports the audience beyond journalistic storytelling to the magical reaches of the imagination.” Presented by Florida Atlantic University’s department of theatre and dance in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. Friday, October 1 through Sunday, October 10, in the Studio One Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. Shows are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $20; students, faculty, staff, alumni and children under 12 are $12; and group prices are available.
