Boynton Beach, FL – As the patron saint of animals and the environment, Saint Francis of Assisi is honored each year at Saint Joseph’s Blessing of the Animals Service.  St. Francis preached to man and beast the universal ability and duty of men to protect and enjoy nature as both the stewards of God's creation and as creatures ourselves.  The St. Francis of Assisi Award began in 2010 and recognizes individuals who exemplify the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi in our community.

Candidates for the St. Francis of Assisi Award should compassionately, generously and consistently give of their time, talent and treasure for the good of animals and the environment.   Who do you know that volunteers countless hours on behalf of animals (domestic, farm, wildlife, etc.)?  Who is advocating in your neighborhood to protect animals and keep them safe?  How is this person making a difference one animal at a time?  Nominate someone you know, or self-nominate by submitting an application form on or before September 2, 2011.

The award will be presented at the annual Blessing of the Animals Service.  This year, the 16th annual Blessing of the Animals service will be held Sunday, September 25th at 4 pm with registration beginning at 2 pm Donations will benefit Busch Wildlife Sanctuary.
