FAU to Host Reading and Book Signing with Cristina Garcia

Florida Atlantic University will host Cristina Garcia, author of Dreaming in Cuban, for a reading and book signing on Thursday, October 20, at 5 p.m. in the General Classrooms South Building, room 215, on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The event is free and open to the public.

Dreaming in Cuban was a bestseller and finalist for the National Book Award. With four subsequent novels, a poetry collection, and three books for young readers, including her most recent novel, Dreams of Significant Girls, Garcia has firmly established herself as a major American writer with an international reputation. She has received accolades from numerous institutions, including the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation, and her work has been translated into 14 languages. Born in Havana but raised in New York, Garcia was a journalist and Miami Bureau Chief for Time magazine before becoming a full-time fiction writer.

Garcia’s visit is part of FAU’s celebration of the National Day on Writing. During the event, student winners of the NDOW writing contest will be honored. For more information, email nwilson3@fau.edu.
