Palm Beach Opera presents child-friendly version of Carmen April 10 500 free tickets provided to families in need Palm Beach Opera presents a Family Opera performance of Georges Bizet's Carmen on Saturday, April 10 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. Children will be treated to fun-filled activities at opera-themed education stations in the Kravis Center lobby at 11:45 a.m. prior to the 1 p.m. show. The Family Opera performance is an abridged 90 minute version of Carmen, featuring musical highlights sung by Palm Beach Opera’s Young Artists as well as narration of the story and English translations projected above the stage. Set changes are conducted with an open curtain, providing a “behind the scenes” peek at an opera production. After the performance, families are invited to meet the artists for photos and autographs in the theater lobby. Tickets are $25 for adults; $12 for students with ID; and $ 5 for children 12 and under. For tickets call 561-833-7888 or visit www.pbopera.org . Through the generosity of its Ticket Package sponsors and as a part of its community outreach efforts, Palm Beach Opera has offered free tickets to nearly 500 students from several Title I Palm Beach County schools and to organizations such as the Urban League of Palm Beach County, YMCA of the Palm Beaches, and Boys & Girls Club, among others. For the second year, Overtures Young Friends of Palm Beach Opera and Victoria and Eugene Pollingue are Production sponsors, joined this year by Herme de Wyman Miro. Palm Beach Opera's Family Opera presentation is just one element in Palm Beach Opera's community outreach strategy. Other outreach programs are Opera Rehearsal 101 , PBO Studio , Concerts in the Classroom , and One Opera in One Hour . Additionally, Palm Beach Opera continues to make strides with regards to new media such as live streaming events on the web, social media initiatives (Facebook , Twitter , YouTube , etc.) and their recently-launched iPhone app . Palm Beach Opera was founded in 1961 as Civic Opera of the Palm Beaches. Its season runs from December through April, with mainstage performances held at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.
