To celebrate the reopening of the boardwalk, the City is hosting the event in conjunction witht he monthly beach cleanup by the volunteer group, The Sand Sifters, which begins at 8 a.m. The boardwalk Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will be followed by family oriented beach activities and entertainment.
Included in thef estivities are Standup Paddle Boardin demonstrations, a surf contest (pendingappropriate water conditions) and entertainment by the steel drum band Steel Band Culture.
A special feature of the event will be Opus the Sea Turtle, a beautiful sculpture created by artist Rick Beau Lieu, now displayed on the new boardwalk. Rick will be on hand to meet and greet visitors and to talk about how Opus was created to promote environmental education, to speak of the preservation of the sea turtle habitat and about the importance of the public art program in Boynton Beach.
Access to the waterf or all citizens is important to our quality of life as South Florida residents and Boynton Beach is at the forefront of providing open space and water access for all to enjoy. The City cordially invites all interested spectators to join in celebrating the reopening of the boardwalk at one of Palm Beach County’s premier beach locations.
