Music at St. Paul’s presents MICHAEL KLOTZ AND JOSE LOPEZ IN RECITAL

            Sunday, January 22th at 3:00 p.m.           

 

            The Music at St. Paul’s concert series, now in its 24th season, will feature violist Michael Klotz, and pianist Jose Lopez, in a program of masterworks for viola and piano. The program will take place on Sunday, January 22th, at 3:00 PM in historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 188 S. Swinton Avenue in the heart of Delray Beach.  The program will include Dmitri Shostakovich's viola sonata and the Sonata in F minor by Johannes Brahms, as well as Robert Schumann's Adagio and Allegro.

            A native of Rochester, New York, Michael Klotz is the violist of the Amernet String Quartet, whose members are artists-in-residence at Florida International University School of Music in Miami. Klotz made his debut as soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic at age 17. Since then he has performed as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician on four continents. Klotz is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music where he was awarded the Performer's Certificate. In 2002 he became one of few individuals to receive a double Master's degree in violin and viola from the Juilliard School.  He has appeared as soloist with the Miami Symphony, Eastman Philharmonia, Mannes Bach Festival Orchestra, Bowdoin Festival Orchestra, and the World Youth Symphony in London, England.  His festival appearances have included Newport, Caramoor, Great Lakes, Skaneateles, Beverly Hills, Music Mountain, Bowdoin, Sarasota, Music Academy of the West, and Miami Mainly Mozart. 

José López is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Keyboard Department at Florida International University in Miami. He has performed throughout the United States, Italy and Central and South America with orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber groups in concert halls, summer festivals such as the Music Festival of the Hamptons in New York and the Killington Music Festival in Vermont. Recent activities have included performances through villages around Lake Como, Italy for the International Convention on 12-tone music and a paper on piano works by Riccardo Malipiero to be published in 2010 as part of the proceedings at the Villa Vigoni German/Italian Center.  He is currently the FIU Chapter President of the American Liszt Society.

A $15 minimum donation is requested for the concert, with preferred (front center) seating available at $20. Students are admitted for a $5 contribution. Tickets can be reserved by phone or online at www.stpaulsdelray.org. No one will be turned away for inability to contribute.
