Event Description

Early American music is normally reduced to a single page in music history books or even a small chapter in American Music History classes. So it should not be surprising to see that for several years pop culture has depicted this musical period as masses of uneducated, illiterate hillbillies singing treasured American folk songs on banjos, fiddles, fifes and drums. However, recent research has unearthed a rich history of musical sophistication that goes way beyond Yankee Doodle Dandy. Join us for an exciting presentation that explores the rich history of Early American music and some musical surprises.

Special Guest Speaker: Dr. James Drayton. FAU Libraries Special Collections

This Presentation is free and open to the public.  The lecture will begin at 4 pm on the 5th floor of the FAU Wimberly Library.  All visitors must follow FAU parking procedures.

Please register for the event in advance!
