Today’s digital cameras are capable of taking correctly exposed and very sharp color balanced pictures that can certainly satisfy the photographic needs of the average person. But for serious photographers simply recording what is there is not enough. Instead, they seek to capture the image in such a way as to make a unique visual statement about a person, place, thing or activity. That means developing a sense of composition and means of rendering subject matter with a style that moves beyond the mundane.

The objective of this two-day workshop is to demonstrate how to identify and exploit various visual elements using such techniques as infusing a mood, adding motion or seeking a dynamic perspective to extend the impact of key visual elements in a scene. The overall goal of the workshop is learn to recognize those critical elements and exploit them using a variety of techniques. You will spend some time photographing subjects of your choice, followed by a critique of these images in conjunction with the participant’s objectives.
