MUSIC THEATRE PIECE ON

LEGENDARY HISPANIC HEROES

On Sunday, October 21st at 3 pm, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in downtown Lake Worth will present Gabriel Sloyer and the Core Ensemble in the music theatre piece “Los Valientes” (The Courageous Ones).  Sloyer will portray three legendary Latinos: Mexican painter Diego Rivera, martyred Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero, and Mexican-American outlaw Joaquin Murrieta - some say the Zorro character was based on this historical figure.

Sloyer is a New York based actor who has appeared at The Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, the Baryshnikov Arts Center, Liberty Free Theater, The Players Theatre, The Kraine Theater, Abingdon Theater, The Working Theater, SoHo Playhouse, Yale Repertory Theater, INTAR Theater, Repertorio Español and Gardzienice in Poland.

The Core Ensemble, Tahirah Whittington, cello, Cyrus von Hochstetter, piano, and Michael Parola, percussion, will perform a wide range of music  from traditional Latino folk and popular songs, sung in Spanish, to instrumental works by Latin American composers Sponsored in part by the Palm Beach County Cultural Council, the program is free and open to the public.

The Core Ensemble has toured in Australia, England, Russia, Ukraine, the Caribbean, and in every region of the U.S. The Core Ensemble receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the A.D.
