Dr. Cheryl Finley discusses Whitfield Lovell and his position in African American Art History. She writes, “…sonic elements that, together with Lovell’s detailed portrayals on paper and salvaged wood of anonymous African Americans, methodically create pathways to remembering and celebrating the everydayness of Black American life over time and space.”
Dr. Finley is the Director of the Atlanta University Center Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective as well as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Art History at Spelman College. She holds a Ph.D. in African American Studies and the History of Art from Yale University.
