This year we commemorate 85 years since the catastrophic events of November 9 & 10, 1938, known as Kristallnacht, "The Night of Broken Glass." This was a two-day pogrom that targeted Jews and Jewish institutions in Germany and its occupied lands. Holocaust scholars like Dr. Irving Berkowitz view Kristallnacht as a fateful and forceful "Beginning of the Road to the Final Solution." The assassination of a low-level German diplomat in Paris by a 17-year-old Jewish youth would become the pretext by the Nazis for orchestrating a "spontaneous uprising" (a reprisal) that would damage or destroy over 1,000 synagogues, 7,500 businesses and murder 91 Jewish people. Join us as Dr. Berkowitz analyzes and explains the roots and ramifications of the Nazi-instigated atrocities that made Kristallnacht the symbolic beginning of the Reich's "Aryanization" of Germany and the vanguard of its genocidal campaign of expulsion and extermination of Jews, the Holocaust. This lecture is also available virtually. This lecture takes place 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm.
