JUMP FOR THE VOTE! Voter Fair

Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2 PM

West Palm Beach, Florida. All of Palm Beach County is invited to the League of Women Voters of Palm Beach County Voter Fair on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2 PM at the West Palm Beach Public Library on 411 Clematis Street in West Palm Beach.  The League’s JUMP FOR THE VOTE! Voter Fair is a One Stop Shop public service event for voters and prospective voters of Palm Beach County to receive voting information and be informed on the important issues that affect us all.

On voting information, Susan Bucher, Supervisor of Elections of Palm Beach County is the main speaker who will inform PBC residents about the new Florida Election Law with new voting requirements everyone needs to know before casting a vote this year, e.g.:

  • Reduction in early voting days
  • Closing the polls on the Sunday before election day, which traditionally was open and a heavy voting day for certain communities
  • Need to correct address changes before voting
  • Need to renew Vote by Mail requests.

There will also be a Supervisor of Elections’ table to register new voters, update your personal voting records and request a Vote by Mail ballot.

On the issues, the public can visit the tables of numerous organizations that will be present to answer questions and provide a better understanding of some of the top concerns of PBC residents, such as AARP Florida on Medicare and Social Security, the Marshall Foundation and 1000 Friends of Florida on growth management, the environment and the Everglades, Planned Parenthood of PBC on women’s health issues, the Urban League of PBC on community development as well as the Palm Beach County Health Department, NOW of PBC, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women WPB Chapter, the ACLU PBC Chapter, Parent-Child Center and so much more.

The participating organizations have come together at the Voter Fair to serve and educate all segments of our community.  “The Palm Beach County ‘JUMP FOR THE VOTE!’ event will help voters raise their voices on critical issues in 2012,” said Jeff Johnson, AARP’s Florida State Director.  “Because the next president and Congress will make critical decisions on Social Security and Medicare, events such as these are especially important to older Floridians this year.”

The Voter Fair is both a celebration and a learning experience.  Make sure your vote counts in Election Year 2012.  Come to the League of Women Voters of PBC Voter Fair with your questions and needs and leave prepared to vote.
