The New York Post calls him “passionate and swinging.” One of the greatest saxophonists of our time comes to the Bridge to perform traditional Jazz, Swing, Be-Bop, Blues and Ballads. Turk Mauro’s recording career goes back to 1963, but it was a long association with Count Basie tenor saxophonist Billy Mitchell that led to Mauro taking up the baritone sax, which he played in the big bands of Dizzy Gillespie (1975) and Buddy Rich (1976-79). In 1981, a group led by Mauro opened New York's now-legendary Blue Note club (where he continues to appear at least once a year). That year, he made his European debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Mauro’s following in Europe grew, even drawing him to live in Paris for a period of time before returning to South Florida to stay.
