FEDERATION, LOCAL JEWISH ORGANIZATIONS COMMEMORATE

ISRAELI SOLDIER’S FIFTH YEAR IN CAPTIVITY ON JUNE 27

 WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – June 16, 2011 – The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, along with Federation’s partner agencies, local synagogues and other Jewish organizations, will commemorate Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit’s fifth year of captivity on Monday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Palm Beach Synagogue, 120 N. County Road in Palm Beach.

 

The event will feature Israeli Consul General to Florida and Puerto Rico Ofer Bavly and a video message from Shalit’s father.

 

On June 25, 2006, a Hamas terrorist group attacked an Israeli tank unit that was guarding a security post in Israel. During the attack, two soldiers were killed, four others wounded and Shalit was abducted. No information has been released on Shalit’s whereabouts or his condition.
