The Delray Beach Playhouse Presents

“I’M GETTING MY ACT TOGETHER AND TAKING IT ON THE ROAD”

A Musical

by

Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford

One of Off-Broadway’s surprise hits in 1979 was the musical “I’M GETTING MY ACT TOGETHER AND TAKING IT ON THE ROAD” written by the popular songwriting team of Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford. This trail-blazing musical about the evolving role of women set a new standard for musicals dealing with contemporary issues in an entertaining and innovative way.

The show tells the story of a pop star named Heather and the personal and professional decisions she must make on the eve of her 40th birthday. She wants her new road show to reflect the life-lessons she has learned as a performer and as a woman. But her manager wants her to downplay the fact that she is nearing 40 to sustain her appeal to a younger audience.

Heather wrestles with the conflict that arises when a woman tries to satisfy the needs and expectations of others at the expense of her own. In her songs, Heather writes about her flawed childhood role-models (“Miss America”), her marriage (“Dear Tom”) and the emotional cost of trying to please others (“Lonely Lady”).

The show stars KATIE THOMAS as Heather, and GINA STANO and C.C. CURRIE as her friends and back-up singers. MARK HETELSON plays her longtime manager. The cast also includes JONATHAN NIETO, KYLE REINBERG and The Liberated Men’s Band.

A spirited musical with a memorable score, “I’M GETTING MY ACT TOGETHER”  premiered at Joseph Papp’s Public Theatre and then transferred to the Circle-in-the-Square where it ran for three years.

“I’M GETTING MY ACT TOGETHER” opens on March 23 and plays through April 8. Evening performances are at 8:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday Matinees are at 2:00 PM.

Tickets are $30 and are available at The Delray Beach Playhouse. Reservations can be made by calling the Box Office at (561) 272-1281 Ex.4. Group Rates are available and Student Tickets are half-price.
