Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization, a non-profit organization providing education, social, support and advocacy programs for children and adults with Down syndrome and their families, will host a dinner and workshop for fathers of children with Down syndrome on January 26, 2012 at six p.m. at the Olive Garden at 5801 Lake Worth Road in Greenacres.  Joe Meares, founder of the national group D.A.D.S (Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome), will be the guest speaker. The meeting is free to Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization members and $20.00 for non- members.  To make a reservation or learn how to become involved in the local D.A.D.S. group, contact 561.912.1231 or ad.gcdso@bellsouth.net.  Advance reservations are required.

 

 D.A.D.S was founded by Joe Meares in 2002 in Indianapolis and has grown from a local group of eight fathers to 54 chapters located throughout the United States and in Canada, the U.K., and Australia.  The support group empowers fathers to take an active role in the lives of their children with Down syndrome.  Joe Meares is the father of four girls, whose youngest child Peyton has Down syndrome.
