The Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization, a non-profit group that provides education, support and advocacy for children and adults with Down Syndrome, will offer Smart Start beginning in August. Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization is rolling out this new program to give children with Down syndrome a solid foundation to start kindergarten in 2012.  The program consists of four evening sessions: August 16 and November 15, 2011 and February 21, and May 15, 2012, which will deal with student readiness; parent/school relations; placements and IEP’s and fostering friendships.  Meetings are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lake Worth High School, Building 14, 1701 Lake Worth Road. There is no charge for the workshops.  Dinner and childcare will be provided to those who register in advance for sessions. Parents who complete all four sessions will receive a $25.00 Wal-Mart gift card to purchase school supplies.
