PALM BEACH POETRY FESTIVAL To Host Poetry Workshop: GIFTS GIVEN and RECEIVED WHEN: Sunday, December 13 -- 1 p.m. WHERE: Old School Square 51 N. Swinton Avenue Delray Beach, FL WHAT: Poetry Workshop: GIFTS GIVEN and RECEIVED Gifts are more than the contents of the package; often they are the package. Often the gifts we think we receive are not actually the gift itself. Considering there are great gifts, horrible gifts, gag gifts and gifts that are not gifts at all, in this workshop we'll be analyzing some classic gift poems by T.S. Eliot and Robert Frost as well as poems by Palm Beach Poetry Festival Poets that question the value of gifts altogether. Songs by Leonard Cohen, Jens Lekman and Iron and Wine will be considered as well. Workshop participants will use these works as the springboard for creating their own poems. If students have poems that fall into this wide definition of gifts or gift-giving, they are invited to bring them along to have them work-shopped. Please bring a light wrap or jacket, and your own refreshments. There will be a $10 fee collected at the door. This event is being coordinated by Blaise Allen, Ph.D., Director of Community Outreach for the Palm Beach Poetry Festival. About the Palm Beach Poetry Festival 2010: Eight faculty poets, two Florida poets and two performance poets will be featured at nine ticketed public events, January 18-23, including readings, talks and a lively panel discussion.
