Marriage was an important institution in Renaissance Florence, particularly among the upper classes. Consequently, many works of art were created when two wealthy citizens were joined in holy matrimony. This talk explores works created specifically for Florentine nuptials, such as portraits, spalliere, cassoni, and tondi. Together, Dr. Fenichel considers what these works tell us about family and love in the 15th and 16th centuries.
