Celebrate Florida Arbor Day at Mounts Botanical Garden Sunday

The slash pine is one of many native Florida trees you can learn about at the Mounts.

Sunday, January 22, is Florida Arbor Day. Arbor Day celebrates tree planting and the important role that trees play in enhancing and protecting our environment.

Trees produce oxygen, trap carbon, and clean the air of pollution. They prevent erosion of soils, and their roots help filter out pollutants before they can get into our drinking water sources. Trees provide us with building materials, fruit and nuts, and medicines, as well as us cooling shade to reduce electric bills throughout the summer months. Trees also provide food and shelter for birds and other wildlife.

Come celebrate trees on Sunday, January 22, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Mounts Botanical Garden, 531 North Military Trail, West Palm Beach. Meet Smokey the Bear, tour our tree collection, and receive a complimentary tree seedling. County Commission Chair Shelley Vana will be on hand for the tree planting ceremony. The Mounts Nursery Guild will also have plants for sale.

There is a suggested donation Sunday of $5. Members of the Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden are admitted free. Please call 233-1757 for more information.
