For the first time together the City of Hallandale Beach and the YMCA of South Florida will host “Fleet Week: Salute to the Military.” The event will take place on Saturday, May 11 from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon, and will be held at the Hallandale Beach YMCA Family Center (501 SE 1st Ave., Hallandale Beach) and Peter Bluesten Park. Admission is free and the activities inside the YMCA are open to members and non-members.
The festivities will kick off with a tribute to the military, featuring the JROTC programs at Hallandale Beach High School and Fort Lauderdale High School. The day’s activities will include music with a DJ, the presence of first-responder vehicles, demonstrations from Military and City of Hallandale police dogs and a bounce house. There will also be a competition between sailors from the U.S. Navy and Hallandale Beach police and firefighters, while the Junior Dolphins youth football program will be holding a mini-clinic. Snacks and beverages will be available from local food trucks.
There will be all sorts of physical fitness activities available for the kids inside the YMCA, including water safety protocols at the pool. All attendees will have the opportunity to pen letters to our military members stationed around the world.
