FAU to Host Broadway Composer Charles Strouse

Acclaimed Composer to Hold Public Master Class

Florida Atlantic University’s department of music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters celebrates the 10th anniversary of its Commercial Music Program by presenting a public master class with acclaimed composer Charles Strouse on Wednesday, October 17 at 2 p.m. in the University Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The class is free and open to the public.

“Mr. Strouse has graciously offered to return to FAU to work with the commercial music students during this anniversary celebration,” said Michael Zager, FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt Eminent Scholar in the Performing Arts. “During a previous visit, vocalists from the department of music enjoyed an intensive and educational session with Mr. Strouse and we want the public to be able to enjoy this experience as well.”

Strouse is a three–time Tony Award winner (“Annie,” “Applause,” “Bye Bye Birdie”), a two–time Emmy Award winner, and his cast recordings have earned him two Grammy Awards. He has been inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Theatre Hall of Fame. His song "Those Were the Days" launched over 200 episodes of “All in the Family” and continues to reach new generations of television audiences in syndication. “Annie” opens on Broadway this fall, with previews starting in October, and Strouse is actively involved with the creative team in the production.

Parking passes and directions to the University Theatre can be obtained at the information booth at the West Glades Road entrance to FAU. For more information, call Fookloy Ford at 561-297-0600 or email fford@fau.edu.
