FAU’s Music Season Kicks Off with a Piano Faculty Concert

 

           Florida Atlantic University’s department of music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present a varied season of concerts this year with classical, jazz, klezmer, big band and much more. All concerts will take place in the University Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.  The events  are free with a suggested donation of $10.

The season opens on Saturday, September 24, at 7 p.m. with a Piano Faculty and Friends Concert. The program includes music by Rachmaninoff, Kreisler, Liszt, Chopin, Beethoven and more. FAU faculty performing include Anne Louise-Turgeon, Heather Coltman, Irena Kofman, Krisztina Kover and Leonid Treer.

Then on Sunday, October 9, at 3 p.m., the FAU Chamber Soloists present the Brahms Festival. The concert includes Judith Burganger and Leonid Treer, piano; Claire Eichhorn, clarinet; and special guest Dean Peterson, bass/baritone. The program includes Brahms’ Sonata No. 1, Op 120 and the Clarinet Trio, Op. 114.

Later that day, at 7 p.m., the Symphony Orchestra presents a Spanish Spectacular. The program includes works by Robert Xavier Rodriguez and Julian Aguirre, and a special performance of Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto Andaluz for four guitars and orchestra, featuring the Middle Earth Classical Guitar Quartet.
