FAU Presents Poet Forrest Gander with a Public Reading and Lecture BOCA RATON, FL – The department of English in Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents poet Forrest Gander with a lecture and public reading. Gander will present a lecture on Wednesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the Board of Trustees Room in the Administration Building on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. He will then do a public reading on Thursday, April 1 at 7 p.m. at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center at 201 Plaza Real, Boca Raton. Both events are free and open to the public, and information can be obtained by calling 561-297-2337. Gander is the author of numerous books of poetry, including Eye Against Eye, Torn Awake and Science and Steepleflower. Gander also wrote the novel As a Friend and the collection of essays “A Faithful Existence.” Gander’s poems appear in many literary magazines in the United States and abroad, and have been translated into half a dozen languages. He is currently a professor of English and comparative literature at Brown University. “Having Forrest Gander here to work with our students and for a public lecture is very important for the department of English,” said Wenying Xu, chair of FAU’s department of English. “He will provide first class instruction to FAU students and will help to bring attention to FAU's MFA program in creative writing.” The lecture is part of the Lawrence A. Sanders Writer-in-Residence program, which is made possible by a donation in memory of Lawrence Sanders, a best-selling South Florida novelist who died in 1998. Sanders achieved great success with his novels The Anderson Tapes and The First Deadly Sin. For more information about FAU’s creative writing program, call 561-297-2973.
