CITY OF WEST PALM BEACH ANNOUNCES DIY 4^TH OF JULY ACTIVITIES, SHOW TIME

DIY Content will launch on Sunday, June 14; 125^th Anniversary Show and Fourth of July fireworks scheduled for 9pm

(WEST PALM BEACH, FL) – On Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, the City of West Palm Beach will roll out its DIY 4^th of July content. The YouTube tutorials will help local patriots set the stage for their own “POP” – party on their porch. As part of the City’s DIY Event Guide, the videos serve as inspiration for people to host their own at-home celebration. The HOMEGrown activities will replace the City’s traditional waterfront festivities.

On 4th of July, all West Palm Beach residents will be able to see the fireworks either by looking up at the sky or through the City’s partnership with WPBF 25. The station’s “Project CommUNITY: Fireworks from Home” will start at 9pm and includes a special program, as well as a live broadcast of the City’s fireworks as the finale. This event marks the end of the City’s 125^th anniversary celebration.

“I am excited to announce that we will have an outstanding celebration to culminate the year-long festivities of the City’s 125^th anniversary,” said City of West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. “Though our event might look a little different, our Community Events Division has worked hard to ensure that everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy a new spin on their traditions.”

The campaign encourages residents to indulge in a full afternoon of at-home entertainment, with the 15-minute fireworks show as the grand finale. Prior to the start of the 9pm show, residents are encouraged to support local businesses by ordering takeout through West Palm Beach Eats as part of staging their POP. The DIY Event Guide content will help people host their own celebration using common and inexpensive household items. Everyone is encouraged to post pictures and videos of their POP to social media, using #WPBTogether, to join the virtual DIY 4^th of July fun.

“We are thrilled to provide our community a safe alternative to our traditional waterfront activities,” said Mary Pinak, Community Events Manager for the City of West Palm Beach, who has been a part of organizing nearly every 4th on Flagler since its inception. “There will be fireworks and there will be fun! Visit our website, make your decorations, order some takeout food from our local businesses and then enjoy the show from home. By sharing your POP online, our community will create the sense of togetherness usually enjoyed in person.”

The fireworks will be shot off from two undisclosed locations. While many residents should be able to see them firsthand, all of Palm Beach County and beyond will have the chance to witness the show on WPBF 25. In addition to airing the fireworks, WPBF 25 will also highlight West Palm Beach's storied history spanning 125 years. WPBF 25's half hour show, “Project CommUNITY: Fireworks from Home,” begins at 9pm with the grand finale featuring a live broadcast of the fireworks immediately afterwards. WPBF 25 can be viewed on Comcast channel 10 and 431, on Direct TV/Dish Network/AT&T U-Verse channel 25, and over the air on channel 25-1. The broadcast will also be streamed live on www.wpbf.com and in the WPBF 25 News App.
