Get ready for Dick Lowenthal and Southeast Florida’s top big band jazz veterans. Listen to the sounds of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, and others. Some of it old, some of it new, but all of it sure to bring back wonderful memories from the 1930’s-1970’s. Conductor Dick Lowenthal, professional trumpeter, jazz educator and historian, and bandleader, has appeared with such luminaries as Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson, Cher, Clark Terry, Randy Brecker, Jon Faddis, and Wynton Marsalis. Dick conducted the Special Unit of the Glenn Miller Orchestra for over 12 years, including performances for U.S. Presidents, Tony Awards, and concert tours of Poland, South America and the Philippines. His performances at the Arts Garages have all been sold out concerts.
PERFORMER BIO:
Professor Emeritus Richard Lowenthal, received a Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Trumpet from The Juilliard School of Music, and recently retired after teaching Jazz for over fifty years. He founded and Chaired the Jazz Program at the Manhattan School of Music and conducted the award winning Jazz Orchestra. In addition he started the Jazz Program at New Jersey City University. Dick serves on the Board of Directors of the Arts Garage, where he also teaches several successful courses in the Adult Education Program.
