Delray Beach Family Recreation and Fitness Center Playground
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - Tuesday, May 17, 2011

May 3, 2011: The City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the official opening of the Delray Beach Family Recreation and Fitness Center Playground on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at 4:00 pm. The playground, an outdoor recreational facility equipped to accommodate all children regardless of physical challenges, is located at 850 North Congress Avenue, (NW corner of Congress Avenue and Lake Ida Road, just west of the Mae Volen Senior Center).

In 2008, the City received a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant in the amount of $61,025 to develop a recreational facility. After several different site plans, the City selected a fully accessible, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant playground system constructed with rubber safety surfacing, wide ramps, two (2) benches, water fountain and bicycle rack. Playground components include slides, toad stool climber, rock wall, steering wheels and thunder rings.

Join Mayor Nelson "Woodie" McDuffie and City Officials as they celebrate the grand opening of the Delray Beach Family Recreation and Fitness Center Playground. For more information, contact Parks and Recreation Superintendent Alberta Gaum-Rickard at (561) 243-7136 or E-mail gaum@mydelraybeach.com.
