FAU’s Department of Theatre Presents ‘Cloud 9’

Florida Atlantic University’s department of theatre in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present “Cloud 9” from Friday, September 23 through Sunday, October 2, in the Studio One Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. Shows are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. General admission tickets are $20; FAU students may purchase tickets for $12, and FAU faculty, staff and alumni may purchase tickets for $16. Tickets may be purchased by visiting www.fauevents.com, by calling 800-564-9539 or at the theatre one hour prior to the performance.

“Cloud 9,” which was written by Caryl Churchill, is a biting appraisal of society’s disposition towards marriage and family, gender roles, race and the politics of each. The time-warping, gender bending and cross-dressing play is recommended for those 16 and over.

“Cloud 9” is the first play in FAU’s season. Others include “Widows,” a story about a group of women in a small town in South America who await the return of their husbands and sons from war; “Wonder of the World,” the story of a girl from a small Midwestern town who tries to escape her boring life by going to Niagara Falls; and “Dangerous Liaisons,” a story set in France shortly before the French Revolution that revolves around the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, two rivals who use sex as a weapon of humiliation and degradation.

Package prices for all four shows are available at www.fauevents.com or by calling 1-800-564-9539.
