Agriculture and our population face exponential expansion. This month's speaker, Tommy Strowd, Executive Director LWDD, will tell how the plans made over 100 years ago formed a solid foundation for water management and how they continue to meet the new demands of these two diversified communities.
The Lake Worth Drainage District was created on June 15, 1915, for the purposes of reclaiming, draining, and irrigating the lands within its boundary, providing water control and water supply, protecting the lands within its boundary from the effects of water by means of the construction and maintenance of canals, levees, pumping stations, and other works, and providing improvements for the purpose of making the area habitable for both settlement and agriculture.
Tonight, you’ll hear about the fascinating history of the Lake Worth Drainage District and how it is kept current with a landscape never dreamt of by its founders.
