Pre-Columbian Art and Modern Abstraction

Dr. Carol Damian, Professor of Art History, Florida International University

Art historian Dr. Carol Damian discusses Pre-Columbian Art in dialogue with modern approaches to Abstraction.  The sensibilities, rituals, and aesthetic expressions of the ancient societies of Pre-Columbian America have survived in the objects that we now consider works of art. Modern artists have found inspiration in these visual creations by Amerindian people and have utilized their symbolic intensity.
